Building an app during nap time

Three months into maternity leave, I finally feel like a part of my brain is waking up again.

As much as I love this season of life, I miss creating things.

So a bit of back story to what I want to create: I've been living with endometriosis my whole adult life. Like many people with chronic conditions with no medical cure ✨, I've spent years experimenting with different ways to manage it — nutrition, supplements, lifestyle changes, acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Medicine — and while many of those things genuinely helped, one problem never went away.

Consistency

It's incredibly difficult to remember what I've tried, stick to routines, and understand what's actually making a difference when I'm juggling work, life, and now, a baby.

Pregnancy gave me something I hadn't experienced in years: nine months with no endometriosis symptoms.

Now that they're slowly returning, I've realised I don't want to start from scratch again.

I want data. Patterns. Insights.

So instead of searching for the perfect app, I decided to build it.

Everyone is saying you can build anything with AI ✨ and so I'm about to see for myself. I've started creating Thrive With Endo: a personal health companion designed to help me understand how my daily habits, symptoms and routines interact over time.

The goal isn't just to track, but to make sense of it, get personalised recommendations and live a better life.

What exists so far

It's still early days, but so far I've built:

  • A simple daily check-in for symptoms, energy and wellbeing.
  • Cycle tracking integrated with symptom logging.
  • A dashboard designed to surface patterns.
  • The foundations for AI-powered insights that can eventually answer questions like: "What usually happens before a flare-up?" or "What routines seem to make me feel at my best?"

I'm building this first and foremost for myself.

But I know there are so many women struggling with the condition and the endless options of things to try.

So I've decided to build in public.

Over the next few months, I'll be sharing what I'm building, what AI can (and can't) do, the mistakes I make along the way, and hopefully create something genuinely useful for people living with endometriosis and other chronic conditions.

If you've ever built something from scratch, or you're navigating a chronic condition yourself, I'm welcoming honest feedback, thoughts and feels at any point.
